What a fun story! The Outer Banks was our family vacation spot for many years so I picked this book for the location。 I kept reading for the story! I enjoyed the mystery of the characters’ intertwined lives and the bit of romance as well。

Live the story and live the characters!Main takeaway is that it’s very hard to live with lies and lies tend to grow and hurt more people than they should。 Edna, Ruth and Ivy are all deep characters with untold stories that have carried on for a couple of generations。 Twisted lives lead to runaways and infants and long searches for truth。

How to succeedSo many books that have time differences in them are so confusing。 Not this one。。。 Easy peasy。 At the end of the book, there is a there is a who's who。 Excellent read。 What sticks out in my mind is their work ethic! Definitely recommend。 How to succeedSo many books that have time differences in them are so confusing。 Not this one。。。 Easy peasy。 At the end of the book, there is a there is a who's who。 Excellent read。 What sticks out in my mind is their work ethic! Good Hallmark Movie storyTHE BRIGHTER THE LIGHT is an interesting, if somewhat predictable, story。 I was relating the story briefly to someone and they came up with the title: Hallmark Movie。

Absolutely loved it。 This book was a winner for me! NC gal here so always a sucker for a coastal Carolina setting。 I loved the dual story line and all the characters。 Highly recommend this one。

A little predictableThe was mildly engrossing, but much of the plot was predictable。 Ruth was the best developed character in the book, I thought。

Lynn

So totally convoluted。 Bad!

Just meh。 Too formulaic, predictable Hallmark Channel type story for me。 And yet another in a long, long line of overdone, tired dual story lines。 I am so OVER these dual story lines。 If I wanted to read two books at once, I would read two books。 And there’s a reason I DON’T - it’s hard enough to keep one story line straight! Lots of characters who seem to be confusingly connected, and their connection is revealed at the end with a family tree。 Why at the end, you ask? This book was poorly written。 Dialogue was stilted。 Somehow, the editor let errors through。 For example, the litter of puppies contained one male and two females。 However, at one point, someone picked up "the largest male" puppy。 He was the only male。 Some phrases were repetitive。 We heard multiple times that the funeral was a blur of faces, and that Dalton was a man in command of his environment。 The plot was fairly interesting, but the characters were flat and lifeless。 I enjoyed the notion of This book was poorly written。 Dialogue was stilted。 Somehow, the editor let errors through。 For example, the litter of puppies contained one male and two females。 However, at one point, someone picked up "the largest male" puppy。 He was the only male。 Some phrases were repetitive。 We heard multiple times that the funeral was a blur of faces, and that Dalton was a man in command of his environment。 The plot was fairly interesting, but the characters were flat and lifeless。 I enjoyed the notion of imperfect people loving each other anyway, but as delivered, I wasn't sure who actually cared for eachother or why。 。。。more

Summer on the Outer BanksWhat a perfect summer read! Loved the characters in this book and the depth displayed in their personalities as they developed through the years。 The intricacies of the love stories and the tangled family tree kept me involved from start to finish。 I couldn't put this book down and found myself hating to see it end。 Definitely recommend this book for an enjoyable story with a surprising ending! The setting and the characters were charming and the story was well-written。 The last 60 pages were a bit confusing as the family tree unfolded。 Somehow, this could have been written better to be less head-scratching。 The family tree diagram at the end of the book helped, but DO NOT read that in advance or it will spoil some of the story line。 I guess what I am saying is that two women who assumed different names who had mothers and adoptive mothers really sends you head spinning。Could be that I The setting and the characters were charming and the story was well-written。 The last 60 pages were a bit confusing as the family tree unfolded。 Somehow, this could have been written better to be less head-scratching。 The family tree diagram at the end of the book helped, but DO NOT read that in advance or it will spoil some of the story line。 I guess what I am saying is that two women who assumed different names who had mothers and adoptive mothers really sends you head spinning。Could be that I read the last 60 pages at 4:30 a。m。, too。 Still, I really like the story line and love that area of the US 。。。more

So good!I loved it! I loved how the story would go back and forth between the characters, learning about their story。 I took my time with this one。 It kept me wanting to read more。 I really want to read more from Mary Ellen Taylor! Highly recommend it!

DelightfulReally a nice, delightful story。 Family history can be complicated but reasons make some sense as half the setting is 1950's。 Definitely recommend! So intriguing! So many lies! Must have been a great place to vacation back in the day。

A nice light beach type read - I am not sure I saw the ending coming in some ways。

Natalie

I wasn’t sure how this was going to tie together, but tie together it did。 A bit of an abrupt ending but maybe leaving room for a sequel …

Faye Nettles

Interesting readThe family lineage was a little wordy。 I lost track in s few places。 The book seemed somewhat hurried at the end。

Lori

Ivy returns to her grandmother Ruth’s cottage, planning on cleaning it up and selling。 Her return to the shore stirs things up with old friends, forcing them to confront feelings hurt by her move to New York twelve years before。 Then a storm uncovers a old wreck, not seen since Ruth was a child, said to be a harbinger of rough times and change。 Wonderful the way the story weaves between Ruth’s tale in 1950 and Ivy’s in 1922。 Weeks worth the time to read。

Excellent Summer Read Light and fun story with enough twists to be interesting。 Excellent use of “Now” and “Then” narrative。 Well thought out characters。

Maggie Brown

I really enjoyed this book and it made me want to move to the beach。 :) The setting and characters were interesting and I liked the way two different time periods and many lives were woven together。 Plus, I’m always a sucker for a happy ending that leaves me smiling。

I liked the two story lines, the characters, and the setting。 And the dialogue was fairly realistic。 But the family relationships were WAY too confusing - the family tree at the end emphasized this rather than clarified it。 Distracting/entertaining enough, but not a must-read。

Fantastic readI loved the style of the author。 I really felt drawn into the lives of all the people。 She made you feel as if you are right there when it's all coming about。I didn't want it to end!
